Lacy Watson Wins Historic Race in WV’s 3rd District

Although news outlets in West Virginia “inexplicably” failed to report his historic nomination as the first African-American for West Virginia’s 3rd District for Congress, Real Progress in Action is proud to endorse Lacy Watson (D). Lacy is greatly recognized for his work in the community as well as social justice initiatives across the state.

Watson, a doctoral student at Virginia Tech, won the historic election with 16,353 votes. That is 161 votes more than second-place candidate Louisiana native, Hilary Turner, garnered at 16,192 votes. Turner wrote on her Facebook page that she refused to concede the race to Watson even after final numbers were published. Voters have expressed disappointment at the division Turner’s actions have created in the Democratic Party. Many have expressed outrage and called on Turner to rally around the Democratic candidate in an effort to unseat Republican candidate Carol Miller.

Election Day is Tuesday November 3, 2020.
